Summer 2020 has been intense, to say the least – but luckily this summer we've had a group of dedicated law students to energize and inspire our work at West Coast.
This August, BC residents marked yet another dismal anniversary since the Mount Polley Mine disaster. It has now been six years since the mine’s tailings dam collapsed, spilling almost 25 million cubic metres of toxic mine waste into surrounding waterways and Quesnel Lake.
It takes courage to take a stand and perseverance to see justice handed down.
Earth Day is a time for us to reflect on all that our planet has given to us and to celebrate those who have worked tirelessly to strengthen our relationship with the environment.
Marilyn Burgoon was a devoted environmental activist who consistently stepped up to protect the Slocan Valley watershed. West Coast was deeply saddened to learn of her passing in December 2019.
When concerned individuals, community groups and First Nations are seeking justice on behalf of the environment, they need someone to turn to.
As summer draws to a close, West Coast is saying goodbye to another cohort of dedicated summer law students who have contributed to our legal programs over the past few months. Each year we host a new group of lawyers-to-be, who assist greatly with legal research, developing educational resources, legal aid support and more.
