“Today’s budget announcements make it clear that long-standing legal protections for the environment, including environmental reviews of major industrial projects like mines and oil pipelines will soon be rolled back or eliminated.”

VANCOUVER, BC, Coast Salish Territories – Today’s announcement to approve the risky Kinder Mountain Trans Mountain Expansion is a disappointing, but unsurprising betrayal for generations of British Columbians. The BC Government’s 37 conditions do nothing to mitigate the risks of the project.

Environmental groups praise support for today's vote

Vancouver, BC, Coast Salish Territories. Environmental lawyers offered some cautious words of praise for the joint statement made by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.S. President Barack Obama. The lawyers, at the Vancouver-based West Coast Environmental Law Association, applauded several short-term initiatives in the agreement, while expressing concern that the two countries did not appear to recognize longer-term challenges of addressing climate change.
