The public interest environmental law organization has been calling on British Columbia’s local governments to launch similar litigation against fossil fuel companies here in BC.

Public inquiry needed to properly investigate deep social and environmental harms of fracking, coalition says

Colwood, Vancouver Island municipalities join new movement for fossil fuel company accountability

VICTORIA, BC – Last night the City of Colwood became the fourth municipality on southern Vancouver Island to demand accountability from fossil fuel companies for local climate impacts. Colwood Council voted unanimously to send a “Climate Accountability Letter” to 20 of the world’s largest fossil fuel companies, asking the companies to pay a fair share of the municipality’s climate costs.

Environmental leaders from across Canada converge at ground zero for Kinder Morgan pipeline

Vancouver, BC, Coast Salish Territories – Today environmental leaders from across Canada will converge at ground zero for the Kinder Morgan pipeline and tankers project, on the water in Burrard Inlet. Groups who were instrumental in defeating the Energy East pipeline proposal, those at the forefront of Kinder Morgan opposition, and others from across the country will be joined by representatives of the Tsleil-Waututh Sacred Trust Initiative and will paddle past the Kinder Morgan marine terminal.
