Subject
Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline Extension Request
Summary
With the federal approval for the Enbridge Northern Gateway pipelines and tankers project set to expire at the end of 2016, the company requested a three-year extension on its certificate from the National Energy Board (NEB) and federal Cabinet.
Granting an extension to Northern Gateway would be inconsistent with the federal government’s commitment to “formalize a moratorium on crude oil tanker traffic on British Columbia’s North Coast,” as stated in the 2015 mandate letter for Canada’s Minister of Transport.
The NEB accepted public comments regarding Enbridge’s extension request, to inform its decision and the final decision from the Cabinet. West Coast made a submission to the NEB on this matter.
