Vancouver. Samuel Harrison and Pippa Feinstein, two law students with the University of Alberta Law School in Edmonton, Alberta, have won the Second ever Twitter Moot (a legal appeal argued entirely over Twitter). The Twitter Moot, held today at 10 am PST/1pm EST, saw event Judges Michael Geist, Polly Higgins and Lisa Taylor grill teams from 5 Canadian law schools over Twitter in a case about the public’s rights to be protected from climate change.
“The Twitter Moot organizers and the judges would like to congratulate Pippa and Samuel on their win,” said West Coast Environmental Law Staff Lawyer and Twitter Moot Administrator, Andrew Gage. “All of the teams did an incredible job and did their universities proud.”
Pippa Feinstein, reacting to her win on Twitter, said: “A big thanks to all the other teams - well done! … good arguments -good debates -good times.”
In addition to bragging rights, Samuel and Pippa will split a $500 prize, which they have announced (via Twitter) will be donated to the Environmental Law Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. Team UofAlberta was sponsored by the law firm Ng Ariss Fong, and was representing the real life Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources (CIER).
