The Sue Big Oil campaign builds on West Coast’s earlier Climate Law in our Hands initiative, which sparked a public conversation in BC about holding major global polluters accountable for their role in the climate crisis.
Since the campaign launch in June 2022, over 12,000 people have signed the Declaration to Sue Big Oil, asking BC local governments to demand accountability from global fossil fuel companies for climate harms facing communities across British Columbia. So far, nine BC communities have committed to work together to bring a class action lawsuit against global fossil fuel companies for a share of the costs of climate change. Read more here.
Polling data released by the Sue Big Oil campaign found that 69% of British Columbians support their local government working with other local governments to sue the world’s most polluting oil companies for a share of the costs of climate change.
