Jade DeFehr (she/her/hers) is excited to work as a summer law student for West Coast Environmental Law. Jade was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba in Treaty One Territory. Her ancestors came to Treaty One land as white Mennonite, German and Ukrainian settler-colonizers. Jade received her Bachelor of Arts in 2018 from the University of Winnipeg with a double major in Women’s and Gender Studies (Honours) and English. She now lives in Tiohtiá:ke/Montreal, where she just completed her second year of law school in the joint common law and civil law program at McGill University.
Jade has been grateful for her time learning from organizing communities and student union collaborators in Winnipeg. In particular, she loved organizing with Manitoba Energy Justice Coalition and Divest UWinnipeg, in addition to working for the University of Winnipeg Students’ Association. Jade is eager to continue learning in Tiohtiá:ke/Montreal and so-called Vancouver. In her spare time, Jade enjoys running, baking, and canning preserves.
