Ashley Haines

Summer Community Outreach Coordinator

Ashley (she/her/hers) is a Summer student with West Coast Environmental Law as the Community Outreach Coordinator. Ashley is from Fort Langley, BC, residing on the lands of the Katzie (q̓ic̓əy̓), Kwantlen (qʼʷa:n̓ƛʼən̓), and Matsqui (Máthxwi) peoples, and is currently in the last year of her undergraduate degree at UBC where she studies International Relations and Sociology. She is hoping to pursue either law or public policy after graduation, with the hopes of working in foreign affairs or international law. Her key research interests are global governance, environmental politics, immigration, and Latin American regional studies.

Ashley brings experience from prior work in the non-profit sector, and is incredibly passionate about bringing communities together through advocacy and youth engagement. She is very excited to begin engaging community members through various local events, online webinars, and volunteer opportunities so that not only is West Coast’s message widespread at a community level, but so people gain valuable experience and knowledge regarding environmental issues that deeply impact our province and beyond.

Outside of work, Ashley is involved in a number of community organizations such as the UBC Arts Undergraduate Society and Rotary International. In her free time, Ashley loves to volunteer throughout the community, drink tea with her grandma, go on spontaneous outings and have movie nights with her group of friends, and visit her family (especially her dog and cat, Coco and Otis) in Fort Langley.
