Twitter Moot announces 3rd Judge, releases rules

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

Vancouver.  With four weeks to go until the World’s first-ever legal appeal argued over Twitter, the event’s host, West Coast Environmental Law, has announced that noted lawyer and Law Professor Kathleen Mahoney of the University of Calgary will be the third and final judge of the event.  Professor Mahoney joins lawyer blogger, Omar HaRedeye, and lawyer, turned award-winning mystery writer, William Deverell as the Twitter Moot’s three judges.

West Coast also released the formal rules, and the Team assignments, for the Twitter Moot, which is scheduled for Tuesday, February 21st, 2012 at 10a.m. (PST).

“Moot courts are a popular activity for law students at law schools around the world.” Professor Mahoney said, “I’m excited to join this unprecedented event, which will use social media to bring the law and legal arguments to a new, global audience.”

The Twitter Moot will see teams from five Canadian Universities – British Columbia, Dalhousie, Ottawa, Victoria and York (Osgoode Hall) arguing a simulated appeal of an actual court case - West Moberly First Nations v. British Columbia - over Twitter.
