Dr. Andrew Thompson is one of the mentors of many of the lawyers that have worked over the years at West Coast Environmental Law.  He was a pioneer in the fields of environmental and natural resource law, authoring many publications and texts, but also showing how lawyers could work collaboratively with communities to build a more sustainable future for our province. 

WCEL Webinar Series

Continuing Professional Development for BC’s Environmental Lawyers and Public Education Webinars

Since 2011 West Coast Environmental Law has been offering a series of webinars designed for lawyers who practice in public interest environmental law.  This is one of our initiatives to help support BC’s public interest environmental lawyers. The webinars meet the Law Society’s requirements for Continuing Professional Development training.

Clicklaw Portal

Clicklaw is a website aimed at enhancing access to justice in British Columbia. It features legal information and education, but it is not a site of laws. Clicklaw is operated by the Courthouse Libraries BC as part of their mission to improve public access to legal information.

Emerging Solutions Video Coverage

West Coast Environmental Law video tapped Emerging Solutions for Clean, Green Power Dialogue. Since the whole Dialogue, with questions, was about 3 hours, we’ve uploaded some of the highlights of the evening. 5 videos are available below:

Emerging Solutions for Clean, Green Power

The January 11th, 2010 dialogue saw participants discussing legal and policy solutions to advance truly clean, green, renewable electricity generation in BC. The standing room only crowd at the SFU Wosk Centre for Dialogue heard short presentations from leaders in the field of sustainability and energy planning, including Prof. Bob Gibson, (University of Waterloo) and Prof. Mark Jaccard (Simon Fraser University), as well as West Coast Environmental Law staff lawyer Josh Paterson.
